Harut Sassounian: Serious analyses necessary over the creation of two-chamber parliament

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 22, ARMENPRESS: Deep analyses, discussions must first of all be conducted before the creation of the two-chamber parliament, and then conclusion be made over its necessity, Publisher of The California Courier Harut Sassounian said speaking to Armenpress and commenting on the statement of Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan made in California about the creation of two-chamber parliament the Upper Chamber of which will involve Diaspora Armenians.

“Deep analyses must be conducted over the initiative not only in Armenia but Diaspora as well. There are number of issues like the order of election of Diaspora Armenians in the Upper Chamber, the latter’s authorities, directions of activity, etc,” Harut Sassounian said. He said such initiatives were brought into life by China, Italy, etc., and it is necessary to study the latter’s experience and pick the positive elements while carrying out the initiative.

“As a sovereign state, Armenia is fully organized unlike the Diaspora Armenians. If nevertheless the idea of two-chamber parliament is brought into life it must be directed toward reinforcement and development of Armenia-Diaspora ties,” Sassounian said.
