YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 14, ARMENPRESS: The processes over the Armenian-Turkish protocols will be possibly activated in near future, Behlül Özkan, lecturer of foreign policy at Bogazici University in Istanbul, came forth with such a forecasting, adding that Turkey’s foreign policy does not believe that conflicts in South Caucasus can be solved by observing them separately. “The protocols must have solved a number of very important issues: they were designed, because both of the parties were discontent with the existing situation,” he said.
According to Mr. Özkan, Turkey has numerous mistakes in relations with Turkey. “First it is wrong that the border is close and there are no diplomatic relations,” the expert pointed out, adding that for the beginning of regulation of relations Turkey must open the border with Armenia, establish diplomatic relations, and only after that the two countries can pass to the solution of those issues.
Referring to the issues existing in the South Caucasus and to the role of Turkey in them, Behlül Özkan noted that Caucasus is full of issues. “The Russian-Georgian War 2008 showed that Turkey’s profits are endangered in the region, as there was a possibility that the Georgian sector of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline could pass under the Russian control,” the experts said, stressing that it is for this very purpose – for ensuring of the own profits, that Turkey undertook the idea of setting up the “Platform of Caucasian Peace”, which, nevertheless, did not succeed.
