Artak Shakaryan: Mediation of Turkey in Egypt stems from propagating logic

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 8, ARMENPRESS: The demonstrations taking place in Turkey are sooner a result of pre-electoral processes, than continuation of the events of Egypt, turkologist Artak Shakaryan said in an interview with Armenpress, adding that Turkey’s opposition Republican-People’s Party will try to make use of the events in Egypt to raise a wave of complaint in Turkey, but it can hardly have success. “International economic crisis has not hit Turkey very strongly, and Prime Minister Erdogan continues to keep strong positions in Kurdish-based regions, hence the scenario of Egypt will hardly be repeated in Turkey,” the turkologist said.

Speaking of the possibility that Turkey may come forth in the events of Egypt as a mediator, Mr. Shakaryan stressed that it stems from the Neo-Ottoman policy of Turkey. “Such a mediation stems from advertising and propagating logic, as Turkey has obtained reputation in the “Arabic Street” thanks to the anti-Israeli policy, it tries to go on with the logic of that policy,” the turkologist stressed.
