YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 7, ARMENPRESS; Seventeen thousand 984 marriages have been registered in Armenia in 2010; compared with 2009 this index has decreased by 4.2%. In 2010 divorces have grown by 5.9% compared with 2009 and amounted to 2997. Psychologist Karine Nalchajyan told Armenpress that the main reasons for reduction of the number of marriages are social.
According to her, if the man realizes that he will not manage to have a financially secure family after the marriage, he does not wish to marry. “Of course, there are other reasons as well like the withdrawal from Armenian traditional family,” the psychologist said, adding that the civil marriage is one of its most vivid manifestations. “Marriage has always been obligatory for Armenian traditional family, but many do not realize its importance,” Karine Nalchajyan said.
