3 Parties, Registered in RA, on the Verge of Dissolution

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 3, ARMENPRESS: 3 of the 74 parties, registered in the Republic of Armenia, are on the verge of dissolution. Edik Margaryan – head of the public unions’ registry department of the agency of state registry of legal entities – told Armenpress that those 3 parties are ‘Nor Ughi’ (New Path), ‘Liberal Democratic Party’ and ‘Miavorum Hanun Hayreniqi’ (Unity for Homeland).

‘The ‘Nor ughi’ party has been in the stage of dissolution since 2006, but because of some issues we cannot finish the process. I should mention that it is parties that apply for dissolution. We do not have any legal power to force them to do that,’ Edik Margaryan said. He informed that each party is in the process of dissolution in case it does not have more than 200 members and provincial units.

The self-dissolution of parties is another matter. ‘There are many parties, which do not meet the corresponding requirements; however they do not file for dissolution. Unfortunately, in this case we cannot undertake any step,’ Edik Margaryan said.

According to the RA Law ‘On Parties’, the creation and functioning of parties, the goals and activity of which are directed against the constitutional order and territorial integrity of the RA, are directed to creation of military establishments, provocation of national, racial and religious hatred, propaganda of violation and war, is prohibited. As to the financial sources of parties, Edik Margaryan said they have drafted a package of amendments to the RA Law ‘On Parties’, which will be sent to the National Assembly after the adoption by the RA Government.
