Hakob Chakryan: The statue of Armenian-Turkish friendship is disgrace in itself

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 3, ARMENPRESS: The statue of Armenian-Turkish friendship in Kars is disgrace in itself, turkologist Hakob Chakryan said today at a meeting with journalists, adding that it is esthetically ugly statue. “The information on demounting of the statute is true, the decision on it was adopted still by the time when Prime Minister Erdogan visited Kars,” the turkologist said. According to him, it is not the monuments that must bring the two people closer: closer relations between the people must be established through recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey.

According to him, the speculations over the Armenian-Turkish friendship is connected with the circumstance that the latter is situated in the Armenian district of Kars. “And some people said that it is higher than the minarets of the neighboring mosques, and it is not profitable for Erdogan in this pre-electoral round that such talks are spread,” the turkologist said.
