YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 2, ARMENPRESS: During the last 5 years RA Ombudsman’s Office has restored the violated rights of 8 thousand 703 persons, Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan said at today’s summarizing press conference. Within the last 5 years the Ombudsman’s Office has affiliated and has implemented experience exchange with a number of organizations engaged in rights’ defense.

In particular, “A” status of affiliation was given to the Ombudsman’s Office in 2006 by the International Coordination Committee, which suggests a full correspondence with Paris principles. Mr. Harutyunyan noted that the Office has affiliated with the Convention of the Association of Ombudsmen and Mediators of the Francophonie, has become a member of the Black Sea and Asian Ombudsman Association.

According to Armen Harutyunyan, the changes and amendments in RA Law on Defense of Human Rights greatly contributed to strengthening of the Ombudsman’s Office. They are directed toward strengthening of the ombudsman’s institution according to Paris principles on national structures.

Mr. Harutyunyan expressed gratitude to state bodies, NGOs and international structures, noting that the cooperation with them has greatly contributed to consolidation of the ombudsman’s institute in Armenia.

“Leaving a consolidated institute, I wish a further fruitful activity to the Ombudsman’s Office and new successes in the issue of dominance of human rights and democratic principles,” Mr. Harutyunyan said.
