YEREVAN, JANUARY 28, ARMENPRESS: ‘The history showed that when we did not have army, we experienced attacks and genocide, and when we formed a stable army, we achieved a number of victories,’ according to Hayk Babukhanyan, chairman of the constitutional rights union.
At today’s meeting with journalists Hayk Babukhanyan congratulated on the 19th anniversary of the Armenian army and said that the constitutional rights union partook in the formation of the Armenian army. ‘In 1990, along with several parties we took the initiative to form army and applied to the supreme council. A year later the issue was discussed at the parliament and in 1992 the Armenian army was formed,’ Hayk Babukhanyan said.
He added that the Armenian army is the institute, which guarantees the country’s stable future. ‘Unfortunately, Turkey and Azerbaijan are still thirsty for genocide and in case of a proper opportunity they will tend to commit genocide against the Armenian nation. In this case the only guarantee of the security of the Armenian nation is our army,’ he mentioned. Hayk Babukhanyan says the statements, according to which the Armenian army faces serious issues and every day people die in our army, are groundless.
‘The statistics show that the number of people, who die of traffic accidents, is bigger than that of those, who die in the army near the borders. No doubt, the authorities of the army must pay attention to the inner problems and tend to regulate them; however these are everyday issues, which must be solved,’ Hayk Babukhanyan said. He added that the military readiness of the Armenian army is higher than that of the Georgian and Azerbaijani armies.
