Turkologist: Turkey tries to suspend recognition of Armenian Genocide through blackmailing

YEREVAN, JANUARY 24, ARMENPRESS: Turkey can do nothing or can have no impact on the decision adopted by the Senate of Canada with which the latter has recognized the Armenian Genocide. With April 24 coming closer Turkey can only try to affect the process of recognition of the Armenian genocide by other countries forwarding the signing of the protocols, Turkologist Kristine Melkonyan said speaking to Armenpress, commenting on the statement of the chairman Turkey’s National Assembly made in Canada.

Turkish press reported that the chairman Mehmet Ali Shahini referring to the Turkish-Canadian relations said that Turks want to avoid issues between the two countries in April and Turkey hopes that Canada will display unbiased attitude in the Armenian Genocide issue.

The Turkologist said previously too Turkey tried to suspend the Genocide recognition process through blackmailing.

“In September 2010 Turkish NA chairman again being in Canada noted that the relations with Armenia are in the process of normalization and the Genocide recognition process impedes the establishment of friendly relations between the two countries,” the Turkologist said, adding that the anti-Armenian statements made by Turkey are agreed with the coming elections in that country.

Canada officially recognized the Armenian Genocide in 2004.
