Pavel Avetisyan: Areni structures prove ancient facts of wine production

YEREVAN, JANUARY 21, ARMENPRESS: The world’s most ancient complex of production of wine found out in Bird Cave of Areni village, Vayots Dzor province by Armenian-American-Irish expedition is exclusive not only with its antiquity, but maintenance of organic remains as well, Director of the Archeology and Ethnography Institute of the National Academy of Sciences Pavel Avetisyan told today journalists, pointing out that the maintained remains enable to study the site more deeply.

“We already have the part of the research results from Copenhagen, and can state that Areni structures prove the ancient facts about production of wine,” Pavel Avetisyan said.

The director of the Archeology and Ethnography Institute noted that expedition started excavations from 2007. According to head of the expedition Boris Gasparyan, the results of the research conducted in Copenhagen show that the site belongs to the beginning of the 4th millennium BC.
