Davit Jamalyan: After Baku pogroms the Azerbaijani public has become more intolerant

YEREVAN, JANUARY 17, ARMENPRESS: After the Baku pogroms the Azerbaijani public has become more intolerant which very often reaches to pathologic manifestations. Military psychologist, expert Davit Jamalyan said speaking to Armenpress that the soviet years created an illusion that 1915 genocide repetition was impossible as generations have grown under the soviet propaganda but the Baku and Sumgait pogroms burst and these illusions vanished. “The anti-Armenian propaganda in Azerbaijan is obvious. In 2005 investigating journalists conducted research in Azerbaijan and found out that the majority of the Azerbaijani public feels ignorance toward Armenians, and the latter together with the hostility and disgust makes the trio of hostile emotions,” he said, adding that the ignorance prepares soil for aggression.

According to him, it is the basis of fascist propaganda but the aggression will become possible if we weaken and Azerbaijanis perceive that they may repeat what they did in Baku that is why it is necessary to restrain from illusions. “We are living in hostile environment, we must be ready to deal with enemies. The ethno-political interests of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Armenia have clashed and more probably in visible future will continue clashing too,” Jamalyan said.
