YEREVAN, DECEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS: ‘What a pity that political interests are of higher importance than the historical truth,’ Naira Zohrabyan, chairperson of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration, member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, said today in an interview with Armenpress, commenting on the fact that the 252 resolution on the Armenian Genocide was not involved in the full session agenda of the US House of Representatives.
‘I am sure that the historical truth will win, otherwise we just cannot establish ties with Turkey as a civil state,’ Naira Zohrabyan stated. She added that the Armenian nation and in particular the Armenian community of the US expected that the resolution would be involved in the US House of Representatives full session agenda, as there was some positive disposition in connection with the adoption of the resolution by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs March 5.
‘I am sure that our American-Armenian compatriots did their best for the adoption of the resolution, however pragmatic political interests were attached higher importance,’ the NA deputy said. Naira Zohrabyan said Turkey did not achieve anything in the result of this; however Turkey showed once again that Armenia deals with a state, which is not ready to face its own history, but tends to become a member of the EU. ‘Turkey does not have enough power and democratic values to be open-faced when facing its past,’ Naira Zohrabyan stated.
