Ruben Melkonyan: The year of 2010 showed that the political elite of Turkey is not ready for regulation of relations with Armenia

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS: The year of 2010 showed that the political elite of Turkey is not ready for regulation of relations with Armenia, Turkologist Ruben Melkonyan said today at a meeting with journalists, adding that there is no positive mood of regulation of relations in wide stripes of Turkish society as well.

“The second round was to follow the signing of Armenian-Turkish protocols, which already required concrete steps and solutions, and here it turned out that Turkey is not frank in its strivings,” the turkologist said, adding that in that round Turkey started applying different propagating steps to show that the relations with Armenian really go to regulation, and among those steps the turkologist pointed out the noise over re-opening of Aghtamar Surb Khach (Holy Cross) Church, as well as the “adventures” of Powerful Turkey Party.

Referring to the behavior of the Armenian party in Armenian-Turkish relations Mr. Melkonyan stressed that the Armenian Constitutional Court this year gave an exhaustive answer to all the points existing in Armenian-Turkish protocols, which could give way to speculations. “It is obvious that Armenia conducts a principal and simple policy and now it is also clear that the regulation of relations with Turkey will never happen at the price of our national and state profits,” the turkologist said.
