Loud noise can result in death

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 21, ARMENPRESS: The Republic of Armenia does not have a law on regulation of noise; this issue is regulated in our country through several sub-legislative acts, Head of the Ecological Right Center at Yerevan State University Aida Iskoyan told Armenpress, adding that there is an approach on noise in a number of laws which prevents its spread.

On the other hand the competence level of society on the issue is of great importance, because even when the Ministries of Healthcare and Nature Protection or Yerevan Municipality adopt a decision on regulation of noise, society is not competent on it,” she said. Chairperson of “For Sustainable Human Development” NGO Karine Danielyan stated that very loud noise can even result in death. “Hormones and adrenalin are produced in the organism due to noise enabling organs actively work. Animals percept noise as signal of danger and run away. It is the same in case of man, but man does not run away, so he/she does not spend the produced adrenaline, and it results in stress,” she said. According to Mrs. Danielyan, it is not causal that after rock concerts people become aggressive, start breaking things.

“The person has received the signal, he/she must do something to spend the adrenaline,” Mrs. Danielyan said. Stress can result in all kinds of deceases – cancer, mental disorder, etc. If organism is already ill, then it will deepen. In this regard children and elderly belong to the vulnerable group, as their organism is weaker. Noise ruins the Vitamin C of the organism, and it can not be easily restored. According to “Green Book”, 55-65 decibel noise is considered optimal, which is the noise of ordinary conversation.

The full absence of noise has a negative influence on health, too. Mrs. Iskoyan noted that plants percept voices and music as well. “Experience shows that in case of loud noise plants grow slowly,” she said. The Chairperson of “For Sustainable Human Development” NGO finds that for registering progress in the legislative field of this sphere, Armenia needs technical support. “We should take into consideration the experience of Europe; when we compare our country’s noise regulation with other countries’, we see that it is left without attention.

According to the data of the European Union, nearly 80 million people become subject to negative influence of noise. “In this issue the negative influence of transport is especially notable, as it influences both on pedestrians and on those who make use of transport,” Mrs. Iskoyan said. “This sphere in Armenia is not controlled by corresponding bodies, only fines are not enough, certain punitive measures should be also applied in order more tangible result is registered,” she said, simultaneously noting that certain steps have already been undertaken in this direction.
