YEREVAN, DEECMBER 20, ARMENPRESS: The Turkish party is concerned about the judicial actions brought by the inheritors of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, in particular, about the claim of U.S. citizen Yeghiazaryan, which concerns illegal privatization of land by a Turkish military base.
Claim of 63 million USD is presented by the action. Deputy Director of the National Archive, historian Edgar Hovhannisyan said today that especially in the stage, when the Turkish party does its best to get verification about suspension of the genocide issue by the American party, it hinders the process as much as possible. He also noted that this claim is not addressed to the American government; it is the issue of the Turkish government and some banks. “This is an example of true manifestation of demand. There are basis of winning the case,” the historian said.
“The process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide seems to enter to plenary sessions again,” Edgar Hovhannisyan said, adding that in these conditions the new decision adopted by the United States Court for the Ninth Circuit was very profitable for us – Armenians, by which the decision on banning the extension of the term of bringing actions against insurance companies adopted in 2009 August was annulled.
A decision was adopted by the State Court of California still in 2000, which defined a term for presentation of actions – till 2010 December 31. The new decision, according to Turkologist Anush Hovhannisyan, made Turkey get seriously concerned. “The previous decision was profitable for Turkey; it could be actively used for purpose of suspending the recognition process of the genocide,” the turkologist said.
She quoted the words of one of famous historians: “Genocide is in the basis of formation of the Republic of Turkey”.
Mrs. Hovhannisyan expressed sorrow that we do not have general calculations of human and material loss up today. She noted that there are documents on property in Antilias archive or separate individuals possess them, but they are not studied and publicized.
