YEREVAN, DECEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS: The recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Parliament of the Balearic Islands was the result of the Hay Dat Commission, Head of ARF Bureau’s Hay Dat and Political Affairs Office Kiro Manoyan said today in an interview with Armenpress, adding that Hay Dat Commission of Spain has been set up this year.

“When the whole country has already recognized the genocide, it is clear that the recognition by separate provinces or administrative units cannot have very big importance, but when the country has not recognized yet, then this step can be of great significance,” Mr. Manoyan noted, adding that the Balearic Islands are the third administrative unit of Spain that has recognized the Armenian Genocide.

To remind, all the Parties of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands unanimously voted “yes” to accept the declaration on Armenian Genocide. The parliament officially informed the Armenian Embassy in Spain about its decision.

The Balearic Islands are an archipelago in the western Mediterranean Sea. The archipelago forms an autonomous community and a province of Spain, of which the capital city is Palma.
