Vyacheslav Kovalenko: NK conflict must be solved on the basis of the principles which are fixed in Helsinki Final Act and UN basic documents

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS: Nagorno Karabakh conflict must be solved on the basis of those principles, which are fixed in Helsinki Final Act and basic documents of the United Nations, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Vyacheslav Kovalenko told Armenpress, adding that those principles are well-known to everybody, they are – self-determination right of people, territorial integrity, non-application of force and its threat.

“These are the main principles which must be laid in the basis of solution of any territorial issue,” the ambassador said, adding that during the OSCE summit in Astana Russian President Dmitry Medvedev meant these very principles speaking about integral principles. “The solution of the humanitarian issue is a necessity, and it will solve the issue of strengthening of trust between the conflicting parties,” Mr. Kovalenko pointed out.

According to the Ambassador, during the meeting of the Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Astrakhan the speech was about exchange of captives and bodies, and what is mentioned in the statement of the OSCE Minsk group in Astana, is the continuation of the Astrakhan thesis and process. “In the given case the Astrakhan statement served a basis for defense of human rights and rights of population,” Mr. Kovalenko stressed.
