Crematory needed because of lack of lands of graveyards

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 29, ARMENPRESS: The necessity of expanding corresponding areas for graveyards is becoming strained, and the lands of the town are not unlimited. Chief engineer of “Special Service of Population” of Yerevan municipality Razmik Harutyunyan noted in a conversation with Armenpress that the most convenient solution for this issue is the construction of the crematory, for implementation of which the discussions in the Armenian government have started still from 2008 September. The construction and planning works are currently discussed by the Ministries of Urban Development, Territorial Administration and Finances. And the proposals worked out by “Special Service of Population” public non-trade organization have been presented to Yerevan municipality.

“The crematory will afford an opportunity to economize the areas extended for tombs for 24 times,” Mr. Harutyunyan said, adding that 5-6 bodies are buried on 12 square meters within 50-60 years, and for the jug area of only 0,5 square meters will be necessary. The jugs will be placed in a memorial wall. “We will also get rid of the inconveniences connected with burying relatives in different tombs.” Razmik Harutyunyan said.

The experience shows that people mainly regard the idea of construction of crematory with comprehension. “Despite this phenomenon is religiously banned, there are such structures in many towns of Russia, of the United States, of different European countries,” Mr. Harutyunyan said.
