Naira Zohrabyan: We must not underestimate the propaganda war

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 29, ARMENPRESS: The 21st century is a century of propaganda war and we must not underestimate it and its importance, chairwoman of the NA’s European integration standing committee Naira Zohrabyan said speaking to Armenpress, and adding that speaking about the map of Woodrow Wilson’s “Legal Act” signed in 1920 Armenia may probably prepare a field for legal solutions of the issue. “I am not sure that the plan forwarded by Wilson will come true as it is a very complicated issue. Nevertheless, the discussions on the public level are inspiring and it will be right to involve international experts and community in these discussions,” Naira Zohrabyan said.

The Legal act was signed by Wilson in 1920 November 22 and is entitled “The Decision of the USA President on Border between Armenia and Turkey, Entrance of Armenia to sea, the disarming of the Turkish territories neighboring Armenia”. With this document from the point of view of international right the four provinces currently under control of Turkey – Van, Bitlis, Erzrum and Trabzon – are internationally recognized Armenian territories. According to Naira Zohrabyan, we must always speak about this fact to reach the solution of the issue and in this pre-context the idea of creating Woodrow Wilson’s monument is only welcomed. “We lack coordinated work in the international establishments. We must not wait what Azerbaijan will do and then work out a response but we must be initiative ourselves,” she pointed out, adding that recently a body coordinating Armenian delegations has been set up in the NA. The latter conducts discussions, works out strategy so that Armenia manages to come forth with a joint decision, and has one general benefit – the national one.

According to Naira Zohrabyan, in the European parliament many parliamentarians are not even aware of the Nagorno Karabakh. “They are discussing this or that resolution on the NK under the impact of lobbying. That is why periodically the National Assembly is inviting representatives of the international establishments and parliamentarians of the European parliament to Armenia and takes them to Artsakh introducing to the NK issue and showing that Artsakh is a consolidated state with its democratic institutions,” she said, adding that in October-November few delegations have come and December 17 visit of several deputies of the European Parliament to Armenia and Artsakh is expected.
