20th anniversary of National Olympic Committee of Armenia celebrated

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS: The 20th anniversary of establishment of the Armenian National Olympic Committee was ceremonially celebrated in the evening of November 13 in the Alexander Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre. Speaker of RA National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia (ARMNOC) Gagik Tsarukyan, sport delegations from Russia, Belarusia, Latvia, Ukraine and renowned representatives of the Armenian sport world were present at the event.

Gagik Tsarukyan awarded an apartment to world weightlifting champion Tigran Martirosyan, and a number of award-winners of world championships deserved monetary awards by ARMNOC. The Awards Council of the International Olympic Committee handed to Chairman of the Armenian National Olympic Committee a medal after Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the Modern Olympic Games.

According to Gagik Tsarukyan, our athletes always return from Olympic Games, from different championships of the world and Europe with medals, raising the Armenian tricolor in foreign countries and raising the voice of our state hymn.

“This year all of us witnessed that the hymn of our country sounded in Turkey in honor of Tigran Martirosyan. We will go on with properly appraising the achievements of our athletes and supporting so that they present Armenia at high level. In the recent period many works have been carried out in the direction of restoration and construction of sport schools and they will be of continuous nature,” Mr. Tsarukyan promised. According to him, the Armenian nation, though small, has its unique place in all the spheres, including in sport.

Armenia has given 13 champions of Olympic Games throughout the history.
