Marks of Torture Found on the Body of Manvel Saribekyan – RA Citizen Captured by Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS: Criminal proceedings, related to the death of Manvel Saribekyan, Armenian citizen, captured by Azerbaijan, were instituted under Art. 104, part 2 (aforethought brutal assassination). Manvel Saribekyan (born 27.02.1990), inhabitant of Ttujur village of the province of Gegharkunik, was captured by Azerbaijan September 11, 2010.

According to preliminary data, the 20-years-old young man took several cattle to pasture. By 5 p.m., near the ‘Keghut’ pasture part, the shepherd lost his direction because of fog and found himself in the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and was captured by the Azerbaijani party. The Azerbaijani party gave back November 4 the body of Manvel Saribekyan. According to the Azerbaijani official statements, Manvel Saribekyan hung himself October 5, 2010.

An official from the press service of the RA Prosecutor General’s Office told Armenpress that the preliminary examination of the body made clear that the body was not preserved properly: it was rotten. In the result of the medical examination of the body, it was made clear that marks of torture exist on the body. The preliminary investigation of the case was assigned to the chief investigatory department of the RA Police. Details on the results of the preliminary investigation and forensic medical expertise will be provided later.
