Deputies of the European Parliament meet in Artsakh with Armenian refugees migrated from Azerbaijan

STEPANAKERT, OCTOBER 29, ARMENPRESS: Deputies of the European Parliament – members of the European People’s Party Damien Abadi and member of the European Green Union Michel Rivaz, besides official meetings with the authorities of the NKR met October 28 with the representatives of the Armenian refugees migrated to the NKR from Azerbaijan.

The parliamentarians started their meeting with a question on how it happened that the Armenians having great contribution to the Azerbaijan’s economy and culture were displaced from their homes. “The Karabakh issue is incomprehensible for us, we came to understand and protect culture and people,” Mr Rivaz said.

The Armenian refugees told about the brutalities of the Azerbaijani authorities committed in Baku, Sumgait and other Armenian-populated settlements of Azerbaijan to press the fair demand of the Artsakh Armenians about the settlement of the Karabakh issue. During the meeting the European deputies also cleared out that the refugees living in Artsakh are not internationally recognized. “If the refugees in Azerbaijan have international status, it is inadmissible that the rights of the Armenian refugees be ignored because Artsakh is not internationally recognized,” Mr Rivaz said. He offered the present to submit a corresponding application for getting the status, promising to do their best to restore their fair rights.
