YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS: The clashes on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border will be continued, Tom de Waal, senior associate in the Russia and Eurasia Program at the Carnegie Endowment, said in an interview with “Voice of America” Armenian service. According to him, it is concerning that the posts of the opposite parties are placed at 40 m distance from each other.

The associate sees a huge difference between the periodically repeated statements of the Azerbaijani defense minister and president. “If the Azerbaijani president comes forth with threats, the defense minister continuously makes a joke about the opportunity of war,” he said.

Tom de Waal conditions this by presence of different auditoriums for them and explains Aliyev’s threats only by gathering of political percents. According to the associate, Azerbaijan must understand that it cannot gain victory in war in a military way, about which the results of the researches prove.

He explains that by the geographical position of the Nagorno Karabakh and strength of the Armenian army. “Besides up-to-date weapons, for celebrating victory we must be able to rely on troops, which Azerbaijan cannot do at this moment,” Tomas de Waal said. In case of applying to war, the Azerbaijani party will take thousands of Azerbaijani young people to unavoidable death.
