YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS: Eye deceases have always been considered very unimportant issues, especially when the speech is about children. Head of the Children’s Department of the Ophthalmologic Center after Malayan, candidate of doctoral sciences Ruzanna Harutyunyan referred to issues on ophthalmology with the request of “Armenpress”.
- Mrs. Harutyunyan, which are the mostly spread deceases in children’s ophthalmology?
- In the recent period the number of our applicants has grown. It is laudable from the viewpoint that the consistency and attention of society in that direction has grown. Among the mostly spread deceases in children’s ophthalmology I can mention the refraction deceases, short-sightedness, infections, deceases connected with neural problems, allergies. Unfortunately, the number of genetic deceases has especially grown lately.
-How would you assess the treatment process in Armenia?
-The level of revealing deceases has considerably grown. We implement corresponding treatment through periodical examinations, registering desirable results. Armenian ophthalmologic services for children are quite good, just the patients should conscientiously follow professionals’ instructions.
-Are there cases when there is a need to send a patient abroad, and in what kind of cases?
-Of course, such deceases are registered. But in honor to development tempos of medicine in our country I should mention that the number of such cases has incomparably reduced, and that tendency is continued. Nevertheless, in case of advanced stages of pre-maturity retinopathy, for example, we have to advise to get treatment abroad. We need development of chemical therapy as well.
-What would you advise for avoiding possible eye problems?
-I would advise parents to consult with doctor from the early age of a child. The number of the customers, who come with a 1-2 month child, noticed that the child does not properly fix the look, has incomparably grown. Those concerns are very often needless, but are encouraged by us. All of us realize that the opposite cases can result in worse consequences. So we advise everybody to be consistent beginning form the pre-birth period, as there are many cases when the infants have inborn deceases because of the parents not passed medical examination. Every parent knows well the Achilles’ hill of his/ her child, and can prevent the repetition or development of decease by reminding about it periodically. Exercises resting the muscles, avoidance of stresses and sport are very useful. Nutrition, air, stress – these are the most influential factors for vision.
