Armenia not to have lack of wheat this year

YEREVAN, AUGUST 23, ARMENPRESS: Armenia will not have lack of wheat this year. An official from the Armenian Ministry of Agriculture Gagik Manucharyan told Armenpress that currently the republic has store of wheat for 200 days which means that it will be enough for seven months while four has been left for the end of the year. In the coming year when it will be necessary to import wheat the process will be resumed. Armenia has also assembled 100 000 -150 000 tons of harvest and by the end of the season the number will exceed the 200 000.

The drought has damaged the 20% of the harvest in Russia which made that country ban the export of wheat by the end of the year. Taking it into consideration, the Iranian embassy to Armenia has offered Armenia corn. Commenting on this, Mr Manucharyan said that the Armenian side is not in panic at all as there is no threat of lack of corn.

“We are very grateful to Iran for the offer but we do not need it yet and more probably will not need. Even if we do not import wheat at all by the end of the year, still we will not feel lack of it,” he assured.
