Naira Zohrabyan, “Dmitry Medvedev’s visit can open new strips of mutual trust in Armenian-Russian relations”

YEREVAN, AUGUST 19, ARMENPRESS: The state visit of the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev can open new strips of cooperation and mutual trust in Armenian-Russian relations, Chairperson of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration Affairs, member of the Armenian delegation at the PACE Naira Zohrabyan told Armenpress, adding that Armenia builds its policy on the principle of mutual supplementation.

“We are developing the European vector of foreign policy, but we attach great importance to our country’s relations with Russia, too,” she noted. Referring to the dynamics of Armenian-Turkish relations, she noted that these are relations of true strategic allied powers and have serious prospect for development.

“The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is one of the supplementary guarantees of the security of Armenia,” N. Zohrabyan noted, adding that Armenia, being situated in such a non-stable region and having neighbors like Turkey and Azerbaijan, must attach importance to its activity within the frameworks of the CSTO.

“Essential changes in regulation of the Nagorno Karabakh issue or Armenian-Turkish relations as a result of the state visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev or unofficial summit of CSTO member states are not expected,” N. Zohrabyan said adding that nevertheless, discussions over the mentioned issues are possible at the meeting of Armenian and Russian Presidents S. Sargsyan and D. Medvedev. “The role which Russia plays in the process of regulation of the Karabakh conflict within the frameworks of the OSCE Minsk group is quite notable,” N. Zohrabyan said.
