YEREVAN, AUGUST 19, ARMENPRESS: The non-official summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Yerevan aims to plan the joint works of the upcoming one year, and to remind the war-striving countries in the region that within the frameworks of the CSTO Armenia can receive necessary military and technical support, political analyst Sergey Shakaryants said today at a press conference, adding that the extension of the term of the contract on placing a Russian military base in Armenia will become a restraining circumstance both for the war-striving forces of the region, and for the ones, which wish to turn the Caucasus into a platform of anti-Iranian activities.
“The big states strive to implement extensive geographical-political changes in the Caucasus, so in these conditions we must worry about the destiny of Armenia and Artsakh, and find our place during these big changes,” the political analyst said. According to him, Armenia must be able to determine its own destiny; that is why all the officials and departments of the republic must work in an agreed and coordinated way.
In response to a question about the expectations from Dmitry Medvedev-Serzh Sargsyan meeting, S. Shakaryants said that in Armenian-Russian relations it is difficult to expect a new quality, as they are already at quite a high level.
