Svetlana Namchevadze, “Armenians treat Georgians well”

YEREVAN, AUGUST 17, ARMENPRESS: Nearly 600 Georgians live currently in Armenia, about 200 of them – in Yerevan. Chairperson of “Iveria” Georgian charitable community Svetlana Namchevadze told Armenpress that the community has been organizing a Sunday school already for 10 years, where Georgian is taught not only to the representatives of the community, but to all wishers as well, “Iveria” newspaper has been publishing already for 5 years.

According to her, in the last 3 years the community sends the Armenian-based Georgian young people to Georgia to have a rest in a camp. On this August, too, 10 people will travel to the presidential camp of Anaklia, situated in the neighborhood of Poti. S. Namchevadze noted that they have also partaken in the Delphian Games organized in June in Yerevan.

Commenting on the draft resolution on “Determination of Armenia to become a mono-ethnic state and on implementation of policy against national minorities” put into circulation by Azeri PACE Delegation representative Rafael Husseinov, according to which Armenian national minorities undergo pressures in Armenia, S. Namchevadze noted that that is an obvious lie and slander. “We have told the representatives of the OSCE about this, there are no pressures in Armenia, quite the opposite, there is a coordination council of national minorities, which links us with other national minorities living in Armenia, as well as gives us an opportunity to solve our problems in a more operative way. Here we are treated well, and we have the same every day issues, as any citizen of Armenia,” the chairperson of “Iveria” community said. “Iveria” has been established in 1997.
