Hans-Jochen Schmidt: Turkey’s participation in the NK settlement conflict cannot contribute to the effective continuation of negotiations

YEREVAN, AUGUST 4, ARMENPRESS: From the political respect it is not expedient to expand the commitments assumed by the OSCE Minsk group co-chairs with any other tool, German ambassador to Armenia Hans-Jochen Schmidt said today at a news conference in response to the question what role the EU may have in the settlement of the NK conflict.
“I think there is an agreement between the Armenian side and the Minsk group that is the Armenian side highlights the activity of the Minsk Group in the solution of the issue. If the EU member states may contribute to the settlement of the conflict through cooperation with the states of the region, it must be only welcomed,” the ambassador said.
According to him, even discussions were going on over participation of Turkey in the NK settlement process. “Naturally the conclusion was that Turkey’s participation in this case cannot contribute to the effective continuation of negotiations,” the ambassador pointed out.
