Armenia must change its diplomacy after the ruling of the ICJ

YEREVAN, JULY 28, ARMENPRESS: The ruling of the International Court of Justice gives Armenia an opportunity not only to change its foreign policy in respect of political but of legal approaches as well, deputy head of the Armenian Republican party, head of its NA’s faction Galust Sahakyan said today at news conference, at the same time adding that the ruling of the ICJ cannot have a big impact on the NK issue and the Armenian party first of all will not make changes in its diplomatic steps.

“We must guide the states cooperating with us to start process of recognition of the NKR or do so that Artsakh be recognized an institute of international right. It means giving Artsakh an opportunity to have its official representatives in other countries,” Galust Sahakyan said, adding that as a result of such policy the expected positive results will not make wait long. According to him, Armenia within the framework of the OSCE has always claimed that it is for peaceful settlement of the issue and it is necessary to maintain that stance.

The deputy chairman referred also to the inner-political life of Armenia, particularly speaking about coming elections and possible formation of new political force. “I exclude the creation of new political force. Of course it is possible that before the launch of elections some institutions be formed. Such phenomena have always been and will always be,” he noted. And as to seriously formed opposition, the speaker said today we do not have it. “In Armenia it is accepted that if a party does not agree with the ideas of the authorities it is considered an opposition, but it is just a misunderstanding,” Galust Sahakyan said.

He also expressed an opinion about the recent congress of the Armenian National Movement describing it as common.
