YEREVAN, JULY 6, ARMENPRESS: Armenian-Indian “ARMINDA” friendship association non-governmental organization has been established, founders of the NGO chief editor of “Azdarar” Martik Sargsyan and literary critic Sen Arevshatyan informed today at a press conference. ”We want to bring the Armenian-Indian relations on a new level,” M. Sargsyan said, pointing out that “ARMINDA” will involve various programs and carry out extended activity. He said now the NGO faces issues on consolidation of Armenian-Indian cultural and economic ties. “Armenians and Indians used to have strong cultural ties centuries ago but during the time the number of Armenians in India reduced, and now there is only one community in Calcutta,” Sen Arevshatyan noted, adding that Armenian and Indian peoples have same roots and are Aryan, Indo-European tribes.
“The Armenian community in India is very small but it is very active and preserves its language,” Indian ambassador to Armenia Mal Hotra said, noting that Armenia has practical presence in the Indian land. “Unfortunately, Armenia has small information about contemporary India as well as the latter about current independent Armenia,” the ambassador said, noting that bilateral trade and volume of investments is less than the existing potential.
“Nothing is being exported from Armenia to India and from there buffalo meat, tea, rice, wedding dresses, etc are being imported to Armenia,” M. Sargsyan said. The Indian ambassador also said that Armenian-Indian Information and Communication Technology Center will be established in the Yerevan State University.
