“Heritage” party highlights the visit of the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Armenia

YEREVAN, JULY 6, ARMENPRESS: “Heritage” party highlights the visit of the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Armenia, head of the “Heritage” party’s parliamentary faction Stepan Safaryan said, adding that the visit had a few remarkable points. According to him, the fact that Turkey was not involved in Clinton’s tour to Eastern Europe and South Caucasus means that it is not viewed by the USA as a part of Eastern Europe. “By not visiting Turkey the USA showed that its attitude toward Turkey has changed as of the moment, that is to say, currently the USA will not display the support Turkey was expecting from it on its way to the Euro-integration,” Stepan Safaryan pointed out. According to him, the fact that Clinton stated that in the pre-context of the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations the ball is now in the field of Turkey, the responsibility of failure of the current phase of negotiations were put on Turkey.

The parliamentarian said that the visit of the US Secretary of State was also important in respect that it showed that the South Caucasus is of strategic importance for the USA.

“Clinton’s statements were clear signals to Azerbaijan that the regional issues must be solved in peaceful way,” Safaryan said. According to him, the US Secretary of State made Azerbaijan understand that no one will allow military solution to the NK issue.
