Levon Ananyan: Armenia-Diaspora literary bridge is the most consolidated one

YEREVAN, JUNE 28, ARMENPRESS: As part of the Days of Armenian Literature of the “One Nation, One Culture” festival from July 28 to July 2 the fifth all-Armenian conference of writers will be conducted. With the request of Armenpress chairman of the Armenian Writers’ Union Levon Ananyan presented details about the coming conference.

- Mr. Ananyan one and a half year ago Armenian Writers’ Union signed a memorandum with the Diaspora Ministry. What did the signing of the memorandum give?

- In the first month of the creation of Armenian Diaspora Ministry joint programs and memorandum on conducting events have been signed with the Armenian Writers’ Union. One and a half year passed from that period, and today we may register with delight that these programs are becoming a reality. The fifth all-Armenian conference is being conducted in collaboration with the Diaspora Ministry.

- Which is the periodicity of conduction of all-Armenian conferences?

- For the first time all-Armenian conference was held in 2002 and with two year periodicity is being conducted till now. The first two conferences were conducted in Armenia and Artsakh, the third one in Beirut and the forth and fifth one again in Armenia.

- How the conference is entitled and what issues will be discussed during it?

- The conference will be called “Armenian Literature – Armenian Citadel”. During the conference the discussions will be held over four topics. First of all we must discuss the tendencies of development of the Armenian literature during the recent two years, secondly we must try to draw parallels between the Armenian literature and the global one, thirdly we will discuss the issue of internalization of the contemporary Armenian literature and fourthly, we will sum up the issue of literary press and literary standards.

- How many writers will participate in the conference?

- This fifth all-Armenian conference is unprecedented with the number of its participants. About 100 Armenian-writing writers from 20 countries will participate from diaspora. Armenian writers living here will also take part.

- Writers of Armenia and diaspora are in touch with each other.

- Today, really, Armenia-Diaspora literary bridge is the most consolidated one. And now we also note that the Diaspora writers want their books to be published in Armenia, which has become a reality thanks to the stubborn efforts of the Armenian Writers Union.

- Mr. Ananyan, an opinion is spread that the contemporary Armenian literature is on the edge of collapse. What will you say about it?

- Unlike diaspora in Armenia the youth literature is developing dynamically. The young generation is fully approving its presence in the contemporary Armenian literature. The senior generation of writers feels the warm breath of the young writers. And in diaspora there is a work to do.
