YEREVAN, JUNE 22, ARMENPRESS: The meeting with the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group in Russian town of Saint Petersburg appeared to be impetus for the Azerbaijani actions against Karabakh, political specialist Sergey Shakaryants said today at a meeting with journalists. According to him, it is obvious that the Petersburg negotiations have been quite complicated and have given a surprising result for Azerbaijan, and a pressure has been exerted on Azerbaijan by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, as a result of which Karabakh was attacked.

“Azerbaijan breaks all its promises, and without fulfilling the own commitments, starts acting merely in a military way. This is a step, which is directed toward throwing down the negotiations,” S. Shakaryan said.

According to him, it is more than clear that the military actions by Azerbaijan will surely reflect on the process. The political specialist finds that the international community must strictly assess the Azerbaijani actions. He finds it possible that in near future the co-chairs of the Minsk Group will make Azerbaijan sign an agreement on not applying force both with Armenian and Nagorno Karabakh authorities. It will be aimed at continuing the negotiations over the Karabakh issue.

“If a similar document is not signed, the continuation of the negotiations will be subject to risk. And if the negotiations are not fallen down, the format may be changed. Today the processes have reached such a verge, that changes are inevitable,” S. Shakaryants said.

He considered the start of the war less possible, but if Azerbaijan makes an attempt to start a war, according to the political specialist, it will last for several days.
