Stepan Safaryan: Armenia must demand from the international community to bring to responsibility Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, JUNE 22, ARMENPRESS: Armenia must demand from the international community to bring to responsibility Azerbaijan, head of the “Heritage” party’s faction Stepan Safaryan said today at the meeting with reporters. According to him, the actions of Azerbaijan against Karabakh must not be left unpunished.

“If such steps of Azerbaijan remain unpunished, they will grow to wide scale actions. It is obvious that the attack on Karabakh was programmed by the Azerbaijani authorities. It will be naïve to think that in a country like Azerbaijan, where everything and everyone is controlled someone do something on his own,” S. Safaryan said. He thinks that the international community must strictly express over what happened and not without address by just calling to restrain from usage of force.

S. Safaryan said that Azerbaijan must be forced to understand that the Armenian side will give a corresponding response. Though, according to him, it does not mean that Armenia must yield to the rules of military solution of the conflict.

According to Safaryan, the actions of Azerbaijan show that if it signs a document, even about the right of recognition of the right of Karabakh to self-determination, it is not reliable as that country is not able to implement its commitments.

“Such manifestations of Azerbaijani policy does not let believe it. The co-chairs of the Minsk Group wish to see the Madrid principles signed but today serious issue rises whether Azerbaijan as a state, is able to respect its signature put under any of the documents,” Stepan Safaryan said. He reminded that with the Meindorf declaration Azerbaijan promised to solve the Karabakh issue only in a peaceful way, but today the reality shows quite another thing.

S. Safaryan said that the Armenian society must not panic, there is no need for it, and the authorities and political forces must be a little bit cautios.
