Sergey Minasyan Says by the Latest Karabakh-Azerbaijani Incident Ilham Aliyev Tried to Solve Inner-political Issues

YEREVAN, JUNE 21, ARMENPRESS: The latest incident taken place in the Karabakh-Azerbaijani contact line is connected with the results of the meeting of the Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents, Deputy Director of the Caucasian Institute, political specialist Sergey Minasyan said at today’s press conference. On June 18, approximately at 23.30 pm, an armed reconnaissance group invaded the territory of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic from Azerbaijan, as a result of the activities against which victims were registered both by the Armenian and Azerbaijani parties.

According to the political specialist, the latest negotiations with participation of the presidents were not very pleasant for the Azerbaijani authorities, and President of that country Ilham Aliyev tried to solve inner-political issues with similar activities, to show the foreign forces its wish to reach the solution of the NKR issue through a military scenario.

“Azerbaijan hoped that lately-established close relations of Russia and Azerbaijan would contribute that in the Nagorno Karabakh issue Russia assumed an anti-Armenian policy, which did not take place and will not do. And the allegedly updated Madrid Principles voiced by the Azerbaijani authorities, do not exist. Currently the original version of the Madrid Principles is put on the negotiation table, and everybody knows its content quite well,” S. Minasyan said.

According to him, there was a hard conversation during the last trilateral meeting of the presidents, first of all for Azerbaijan, as a result of which Ilham Aliyev immediately left for Baku, after which the mentioned incident was registered.

After the meeting of the presidents Ilham Aliyev must have participated in the economic forum held in Saint Petersburg, but did not do so for non-understandable reasons. “By suchlike steps Azerbaijan intends to distort the current stage of negotiations. By the way, the last incident did not stem from the profits of Azerbaijan, as the diversion group did not manage to know any information from the Armenian armed forces, and did not manage to attack any Armenian fulcrum, failing its task,” the political specialist said.

S. Minasyan also attached importance to the maintenance of the format of the meeting of the presidents. “Azerbaijan does not hope any more that Turkey will be able to be involved in the negotiations of the Nagorno Karabakh issue in any way. The latest meeting was held on the initiative of the Russian President, in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group,” S. Minasyan stated.
