YEREVAN, JUNE 18, ARMENPRESS: The Azerbaijani President partook in Saint Petersburg meeting under foreign pressures, which means that the international community is not going to let the downfall of the peaceful process of Karabakh issue and the removal of the issue to the field of military rhetoric in such an easy way, Professor of the Yerevan State University, Political Specialist Alexander Manasyan said at today’s meeting adding that the meeting of the Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents proves that the Minsk Group has given its agreement to meetings in separate formats, the goal of which is to register only a progress.
After the meeting with his Armenian and Russian counterparts, the departure of the Azerbaijani president from Saint Petersburg and the non-participation in the international economic forum was conditioned by the circumstance that before that meeting Ilham Aliyev was sure that the negotiations would run as he wanted, “but quite the opposite took place”. “Baku wanted Moscow to exert pressures on the Armenian party, forgetting that during the visit paid to Turkey Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin underscored that Russia excluded exertion of any pressure on the parties of the Karabakh conflict.
The party which was likely to be subject to pressure, according to Baku, must have been Armenia. Aliyev had left for Saint Petersburg with that very hope. But there Aliyev was brought to the flow of realistic negotiations, which made him upset,” A. Manasyan said. Referring to the Madrid Principles the speaker noted that they are basis for continuing the negotiations. “Sooner or later Azerbaijan will recognize the status of Karabakh as independent state, but Armenia must not tie certain hopes with that,” A. Manasyan said.
