Regular Monitoring of Armenian-Azerbaijani Contact Line conducted

YEREVAN, JUNE 16, ARMENPRESS: A regular monitoring was conducted in the Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line – in the boundary zone of Bardzruni settlement of Vayots Dzor province, with participation of the field assistants of personal representative of OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzey Kasprzyk. First a security guarantee was gained by a bilateral agreement, only after which the monitoring was conducted, which passed without violation of the ceasefire regime.

Representative of the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia, Colonel Andranik Mkrtumyan told journalists that every time the Armenian party expresses wish that direct meetings are held during the monitoring by crossing the border. “During today’s monitoring, too, the Armenian party came forward with such a proposal, but the Azerbaijani party abruptly refused.

According to the Armenian party, Azerbaijan does not treat the conduction of monitoring seriously.

“There is such an impression that they partake in the monitoring compulsively. The 4 monitoring of 2009 and the two monitoring of this year thrown down by Azerbaijan prove that.

“The Armenian party has always intended and is ready for a direct meeting, having corresponding authorities,” A. Mkrtumyan said. He also noted that today the Azerbaijani party has tried to present a claim that Armenian journalists are not allowed to partake in the monitoring and to uncover it, but it has not been implemented by the claim of the Armenian party.

During the consultation organized in Vayots Dzor governor office before the monitoring, Deputy Governor Samvel Tarverdyan told the OSCE representatives that cases of violation of the ceasefire regime have been registered recently by the Azerbaijani party. The Deputy Governor asked the representatives of the OSCE to carry out relevant works with the Azerbaijani party in this direction.
