117 Applications Received from 36 Countries for Participation in International School of Young Astronomers

YEREVAN, MAY 27, ARMENPRESS: This year the international school of the young astronomers of the International Astronomical Union will be conducted from September 12 to October 2 in Byurakan Observatory after V. Hambardzumyan. It presents itself a gathering of young astronomers from different countries of the world.

Within the frameworks of the school world famous scientists will give lectures, practical works and observations will be conducted. Areg Michaelyan, co-chairman of the Armenian Astronomic Company, organizer of the school, told Armenpress that the summer school will be conducted for the 32nd time. It has coincided with the summer international school organized by Byurakan already for the third time.

According to him, a record-breaking number of applications has been received this year. “This year we have received 117 applications from 36 countries. We have chosen 32 students among the 117 from 19 countries, and 11 from Armenia,” A. Michaelyan said.

He said 13 lecturers from the USA, France, Germany, Belgium, Russia and 3 lecturers from Armenia will partake in the school. The chairman of the International Astronomical Union will be present as well. The International Astronomic Company will take care of the tariff of the students and lecturers, and the State Committee of Science and Byurakan Observatory will cover the local expenses.

During the summer school day observations will be conducted; students will make long-distance observations through on-line regime by telescopes located in the Island of Hawaii, where there will be night at that time, and then they will work out and present the results to specialists,” A. Michaelyan said.

At the end of the school students will come forward with short reports, will present the results of the works implemented in those days. They will be also present at the ceremony of handing the international award after V. Hambardzumyan to be held September 18.
