YEREVAN, MAY 18, ARMENPRESS: An opportunity must be given for organizing in-depth studies of foreign languages in Armenia, member of the Public Council Khosrov Harutyunyan said today at a press conference with the director of Armenian National Archives Amatuni Virabyan, monument specialist Samvel Karapetyan. According to him, in globalization conditions for effective appliance of the mental skills of Armenia it is necessary that many people have complete knowledge of foreign languages.

“The existence of the foreign-language schools does not mean that Armenian language becomes a secondary one. The mother language will be taught in-depth, just other languages will be taught in other languages. Such knowledge of foreign languages does not trouble, moreover, additional opportunities are being created for the young generation,” Harutyunyan said. He said the main pipe of communication today is Internet, during the calculated seconds a wide-scale information is being circulating in the system and for getting use of it knowledge of language is necessary. Khosrov Harutyunyan noted that if we wish to use this information in developing economy, science unequivocally the in-depth knowledge of foreign language is necessary.

“Will the knowledge of foreign language hinder reaching qualitative changes of life? I think it will only be useful. Very often question is being voiced why in the existing schools the quality of education is not being increased. I ask: what was hindering to increase the quality of education during the past 20 years? It is an issue which existed and will exist in near future too,” Harutyunyan said. He noted that many parents spent a lot of money and send their children study abroad and they usually do not return to Armenia. In case of creation of foreign language schools these sums will remain in Armenia and the children will get education here becoming competitive.

A. Virabyan noted that the general education must be implemented only in mother language and the in-depth teaching of foreign languages may be organized in high classes or senior schools.

Samvel Karapetyan is not against creation of foreign language schools. According to him, getting education in foreign language influences the language mentality.
