E. Sharmazanov: ‘RA President’s address is driven by the interests of the Armenians’

YEREVAN, APRIL 23, ARMENPRESS: RA President Serzh Sargsyan’s address on the process of normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations delivered clear messages to the international community and Turkey, said Eduard Sharmazanov, press secretary of RA National Assembly ARP faction. He mentioned that one of the messages is that Armenia has always been constructive in the process of normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations and acted in the interests of Armenia and the long-lasting peace of the region, tending to establish relations without any preconditions. According to Eduard Sharmazanov, Turkey did not act in the same way, but used the language of preconditions and tended to connect the process with the issue of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. ‘The Armenian side clearly expressed the position that ‘the rational timeframes have already expired,’ Sharmazanov said. He mentioned the international community appreciated the efforts of Armenia exerted for normalizing the relations with Turkey. The President of France and the US Deputy Secretary of State welcomed the address of RA President; this implies rise in the international reputation of Armenia. ‘We want the process to go on in case Turkey is willing to appear with constructive positions in this process,’ Eduard Sharmazanov stressed. According to him, the address of the President is driven by the interests of the Armenians of all over. He added that the address clearly stated that Armenia does not intend to make any concession just to establish normal relations with Turkey. ‘Armenia supports establishing relations without preconditions. Armenia will exert more efforts for the international recognition of Armenia. The vision of Armenia is the long-lasting peace and stability in the region,’ Eduard Sharmazanov said.
