YEREVAN, APRIL 21, ARMENPRESS: For occupying a dominant position in the South Caucasus and for becoming a sole leader in this sphere Armenian energy powers must be fortified, Deputy Director of “Noravank” scientific-educational foundation Sevak Sarukhanyan said today at a press conference.
He attached great importance to implementation of energy programs, particularly, on construction of a hydroelectric power plant on Arax River and on exploitation of the 5th energy unit of Hrazdan, which will take place at the end of the year. “This will increase the energy opportunities of Armenia, which is of great significance in the region,” he said.
Development of Iran-Armenia relations as an anti-balancing factor of Azerbaijan-Turkey cooperation is of great importance for S. Sarukhanyan. According to him, it is impossible to thrust a wedge in Armenian-Iranian ties, as they are based on mutual trust and mutual profits. “Suchlike attempts are not made even by the USA, as the latter understands that there is no alternative in Armenian-Iranian relations,” he said.
Despite the presence of Armenian-Iranian relations, Deputy Chairman of “Noravank” scientific-educational foundation considers it impossible that Iran plays a role of a mediator in Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement.
“In these negotiations there is no need of a new mediator. Here is OSCE Minsk Group, which has relevant means for bringing the three parties to signing of a final contract,” S. Sarukhanyan said.
He does not think that there will be a serious progress in the running year over Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
