YEREVAN, APRIL 14, ARMENPRESS: In case the pressures by big states and international organizations on Turkey continue, Turkey will finally recognize the Armenian Genocide, chairman of the NA’s defense, national security and home affairs standing committee, member of the ARF faction Hrayr Karapetyan said today. According to him, no matter how much Turkey will try to avoid looking at facts with real eyes, one day it must recognize the Armenian Genocide.

“Ten years ago we would not have thought that part of Turkey’s intellectuals would recognize the Armenian Genocide or wide circles of its population would talk about it. The time is working in our favor in case we stand by our principles,” H. Karapetyan said.

He said Turkey continues speaking in the language of preconditions trying to sow discord between Armenia and Diaspora as well as tie the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations with the Nagorno Karabakh issue. “Turkey clearly shows that it ties its interests with the interests of Azerbaijan. We may say that they are coming forth as one joint state. Obviously Turkey uses the Karabakh issue as a precondition, saying that for establishing stability in the region first of all Karabakh conflict must be solved,” H. Karapetyan said.

He welcomed the speech of the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan at the tomb of Woodrow Wilson which he said means that Armenia stands by its national values.

Hrayr Karapetyan noted that in Washington Armenia and Turkey confirmed their stances – Armenia confirmed its peaceful intentions to establish diplomatic relations with Turkey and open borders without linking it with the Karabakh issue, and Turkey once again stated that the border will open and diplomatic relations will be established after Armenians stop voicing the Armenian Genocide issue in international arena and settle the Nagorno Karabakh issue in favor of Azerbaijan.

“Turkey is firm in this case. The policy of Armenians in this situation is to continue operating jointly. The big states must understand that the sooner the international community recognizes the Armenian Genocide, the sooner the Armenian-Turkish relations will normalize. Armenia must not give up its principles,” Hrayr Karapetyan said.
