Arman Kirakossyan: “Any speculation on the issue of discussion of the fact of Genocide is absurd and inappropriate”

YEREVAN, MARCH 25, ARMENPRESS: Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Kirakossyan commented on the news spread by certain mass media according to which former foreign minister of Turkey Ali Babacan stated that an arrangement has been reached on Genocide discussions during his participation in the negotiations on the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations.

“I would not want to believe that former foreign minister of Turkey could have made such statement. But if it is true, it at least raises discontent as I was present at those meetings which resulted in the continuation of the Armenian-Turkish normalization process and no arrangement on the being of Genocide was reached,” the deputy foreign minister said.

He said both the president of the republic and the foreign minister have many times stated that Armenia has never and will never put the fact of the Genocide under doubt and neither the importance of its international recognition. Armenian foreign minister stated about it even in November 2008 in Istanbul minutes before the meeting with his that time Turkish counterpart Ali Babacan. “Today any speculation on this issue is absurd and inappropriate,” Kirakossyan noted.
