Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan presented the “Internet multi-language on-line translator” program

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 19, ARMENPRESS: Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan was presented today the “Internet multi-language on-line translator” program created with the support of the Armenian Diaspora Ministry.
Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan said, that basing on the political program of the president of the republic in which the preservation of the Armenian identity and issues on Armenia-Diaspora partnership are considered the prior ones it became necessary to find ways of bringing together western Armenian and eastern Armenian. Studying the high technologies, software opportunities, a tender has been announced by the Ministry as a result of which a scientific group has been formed which was able through a software translate the eastern Armenian into western Armenian and vice versa.
“For a year we worked with the Yerevan Architectural University. The task group has been headed by the professor of technical sciences Eduard Manukyan. Already 55,000 words have been translated from western Armenian into eastern Armenian. A week ago the program has been put into operation and already 1200 people daily make use of it,” H. Hakobyan said.
For getting use of the program, it is necessary to visit www.translator.am web site. The users may not only translate words and sentences from western Armenian into eastern Armenian but also into English.
Head of the task group E. Manukyan noted that the program has big opportunities for development, in near future it is intended to enrich the word data making their number 150,000.
The program presents great interest in Diaspora, the majority of its users are from the USA, followed by France. “It is a very difficult work, many people are involved in the task group. We cooperated with a number of establishments and received support from all of them,” E. Manukyan said.
