New Calendar expected to enter into effect in 2012

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 2, ARMENPRESS: The World Calendar Association took the initiative to change Gregorian calendar that has been valid since the 16th century. The new calendar is expected to enter into effect in 2012. The association offers a new way of counting; in this improved version the year will have 365 days. Each year beginning on Sunday will have an additional day- Saturday.

At present UN is discussing another, so called, “symmetric calendar”, according to which all the years begin with Monday, instead, February, May, August and November have 35 days. Each of the other months will have 28 days.

Areg Mikayelyan, a senior scientific worker from Byurakan observatory after V. Hambardzumyan, told Armenpress that one of the shortcomings of the 'symmetric calendar' is that people born in the shortened months will not have birthdays. He also mentioned that those two versions of the calendars have been suggested stemming from nature protection issues. Every year the same calendar will be used, so there is no use of cutting trees and making pieces of paper for printing calendars.
