About 24 thousand 250 historical-architectural monuments registered currently in the territory of Armenia

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS:About 24 thousand 250 historical-architectural monuments are registered currently in the territory of Armenia, 18 000 of which are kept and controlled by the state, and the rest -by various legal personalities, Director of the Historical-Cultural Reserve Museum and of the Historical Environment Protection Service of the Armenian Culture Ministry Serzhik Arakelyan told today journalists. According to him, the 50 percent of the all above-mentioned monuments currently have a need for urgent reconstruction, and the rest for urgent fortification. Even St. Etchmiadzin Cathedral is a subject to reconstruction; today the waters gathered in its floor threat the basis of the building. S. Arakelyan said that the ministry has submitted to the discussion of the inter-governmental commission the reconstruction projects of Voskevaz’s St. Hovhannes, Hartavan’s “Astvatsnkal”, Irindy’s Blessed Virgin, Teghinyats, Karakop, Kobayr monasteries, Bgavor Church, Lchashen, G. Marzpetuni castles, Erebuni and Arinberd urban places on purpose of starting their construction works next year. Research works are intended to implement in the neighborhood of 37 monuments, as well as monitoring is intended to conduct for those 26 churches, which have an urgent need for reconstruction. S. Arakelyan said that 200-220 million AMD is intended to extend from the state budget for “monuments restoration project 2010”. Head of the Monuments’ Restoration Department of the Agency for Protection of historical and cultural monuments Dorward Arushanyan noted that the monuments’ reconstruction work, which will start with the combination of the new and old, has a creative complicated inclination. During the reconstruction such valuable pieces and details are being found out, because of which the works are restarted, changed and specified for numerous `time`s. Though these all are implemented under the control of professionals, some`time`s valuable important elements are being damaged. The speaker noted that relevant normative legal acts have been already put into operation in the monuments’ legislative field.
