DURING THE 8 MONTHS OF THIS YEAR THE “SOUTH CAUCASIAN RAILWAYS” IMPLEMENTS 1700 TONS OF CARGO TRANSPORTATION

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS:During the 8 months of this year the “South Caucasian Railways” company implements 1700 tons of cargo transportation, which is for 10-15% less over the same period last year. Export makes 15% of the cargo transportation, import – the remaining. During today’s press conference the first assistant to the chief director of the company Marat Khakov informed that during the mentioned period of `time` the passenger transportations to Georgia reached 20 000 which is for 3 000 more over the same period last year. At present the directions to Batumi and Kobuleti no more operate but the train to Tbilisi will operate the whole year round. The passenger transportations inside the republic reached 400 000 which is for 40% more over the same period 2008. According to M. Khakov the increase of volumes of passenger transportations inside the republic is connected with the opening of new directions. “Greater part of our clients was students from different provinces. We do not yet have the opportunity to transport them to the center of Yerevan. The passengers in Yerevan reach till the Kanaker stop. Works are conducted towards exploitation of the “Student’s” station in the Kanaker-Zeytun community which is closer to the center of the town,” M. Khakov said. He informed that the Vanadzor-Gyumri railroad direction is intended to be exploited by winter. This year the “South Caucasian railways” company has completely changed 5 km railroad and repaired 10 km. M. Khakov noted that there were certain flaws in their services and necessary works are conducted to eliminate them; the company is filled up with qualified specialists. “We have agreements with a number of universities the graduates of which are employed in our company,” Khakov said.
