ARMENIA BUILDS NEW EUROPEAN STYLE PRISON

YEREVAN, JUNE 24, ARMENPRESS:Construction of a new prison near Chobankara village in Armavir province will be over in a year or two, Justice Minister Gevork Danielian said during a meeting of experts dedicated to prison rules management. He said the government releases 2 billion Drams every year for construction of the new prison. It will be a big facility of closed type that will house also convicts sentenced to life in prison. The minister said the new prison is designed to accommodate 1,200 convicts and will meet all European standards. Prisoners from two other facilities which need urgent repair will be kept in Chobankara prison. Armenia has a total of 12 prisons.-0-/39/
