PRESIDENT APPOINTS YURI KHACHATUROV AS NEW CHIEF OF GENERAL STAFF OF ARMY

YEREVAN, APRIL 15, ARMENPRESS:President Serzh Sarkisian appointed today Lieutenant-General, Yuri Khachaturov as new chief of the general staff of the Armenian armed forces and the first deputy defense minister. Yuri Khachaturov served as deputy defense minister. Sarkisian’s press office said the new chief of the general staff was promoted to the rank of Colonel-General. Yuri Khachaturov was born in 1952 in Georgia. He is a graduate of a military academy in Moscow. He also served in Afghanistan with Soviet troops in 1985-1988 and was decorated with four military medals. He has been serving for Armenian defense ministry since 1992. He is married and has three children.
